Extra-curricular activities

Garden Club

The Garden Club helps students to develop an awareness of the environment and the part they can play in determining the quality of their local and global surroundings.

Here at Sturt Public School the children have many opportunities to participate in activities that promote the importance of looking after the environment. The children develop an understanding of

  • Sustainability
  • Recycling
  • Composting
  • Soil preparation
  • Planting and harvesting

Students in the Garden Club endeavour to meet once a week to monitor weeds, water, turn compost, plant seasonal vegetables and harvest produce.

Students are actively involved in planting, caring for and harvesting produce in the garden beds, looking after plants in the school grounds and placing the scraps from the morning ‘fruit break' in the compost bins.

We are hoping to implement regular cook ups with the produce from the vegie garden.
